D22-*     COLAS RAIL 47* £24.99/£11.99/£9.99/£7.99

On 20th September 2007, at the Eastleigh works, the first pair of Colas Rail liveried engines were named with the press on hand to record the event. The Colas group of companies includes Seco-Rail, which use a very similar logo on track maintenance equipment - see our D23-* packs.

One year on, a third engine was added to the fleet. 47739 was named "Robin of Templecombe" on 30th September 2008, by and after the last active ex-Templeton former Somerset & Dorset driver. The company name and engine numbers were applied in a different font to the other engines, and above the initially black nameplate the elaborate S&DJR shield was fitted. The engine was different too, having Oleo eliptical buffers instead of round ones, and red LED rear side lights. In 2016 the nameplate was changed to red and another date plate underneath - "1938-2013" - we offer both name style options below.

In May 2016 47749 was re-branded "Colas Rail Freight" with a new design of hat logo and re-named "City Of Truro" - the only city in Cornwall.

At the end of Novemer 2008, two Class 56 engines received Colas hat branding: 56311 in plain grey livery and 56312 in Porterbrooke-like purple with the huge lime-green ARTEMIS name - see our D56-* decals. During November 2009, Colas Rail inherited a pair of Class 66 engines from Advenza Freight - see our D44-* packs for decals there.

For the vinyl sticker brandings applied at the end of November 2009 to DRS livery 57002, see L94* packs in the Midland region section of the Precision Labels range.

In 2009, both Vi Trains and Heljan released Class 47 models in Colas Rail livery as 4mm scale limited editions.

Here we present all the special details that you will need to recreate any of the Colas Rail / Colas Rail Freight livery Class 47 engines in 7mm O-gauge, OO-scale 4mm or 2mm N-gauge. Printed on clear film waterslide transfer media, featuring spare sets of:
  • Small orange safety helmets with black engine numbers,
  • Larger orange saftey helmets where applicable,
  • Large black legend "COLAS RAIL" or "COLAS RAIL FREIGHT" for engine side,
  • Metallic silver nameplates,
  • 83H Shedplates (Plymouth Friary) and silver builder's plate for the orange cab side for 47727 & 47749,
  • Data panel,
  • S&DJR multi-coloured crest with gold for 47739.
See also our packs D3-* for generic overhead flash decals and battery box modern warning triangles, plus our L72* packs for the pressed steel door kicker plates fitted to these locos, both on and below each cab door. See the More Details link from the top of the home page in The Products section, and in particular, the tips on how to work with decals and model painting.

To use these decals you will need to paint a donor model as follows:
  • Gloss black roof and part way down sides,
  • Orange cantrail as usual,
  • Lemon yellow on the left, orange on the right, meeting in the middle with a peak,
  • Yellow nose ends under the cab windows,
  • Final finish mistings of varnish to protect the decals from scratching.
Below is a 1200dpi scan of the actual OO decal S&DJR crest, actual size just 3.75mm tall, click on it to see it at full resolution. Next to that, a photo by Geoff Dickens of another great model he finished using our decals. Below that, in photographs of the decals, note the difference between the fonts used on the different engines.

with enough decals to produce either, as those engines share common details.
You will need to order two D22-H packs to model both of those engines.

James Venables made the 7mm O-gauge model of 47727 shown below.

Using the D22-G pack, David Grainger produced the superb 7mm "Robin of Templecombe" above.
