D25-A/B/C     ETHEL 1, 2, 3 CLASS 25 £11.99/£9.99/£7.99

During the eighties, the Scottish Region, and in particlar the sleeper service from Glasgow to Fort William, had a need for modern electric train heating - ETH. This was met with the conversion of Class 25 engines to create the "ETHEL"s. The first two painted in BR blue-grey to match the sleepers, the third in Intercity livery. The link below contains the full history and photos of the real things.

Here we present all the details that you will need to recreate the engines in OO-scale 4mm, 2mm N-gauge or 7mm O-gauge forms, sets of three of everything (one spare):
  • Red edged blue and white painted names for "ETHEL 1" and "ETHEL 2",
  • Plain black lettered name for "ETHEL 3",
  • The various white and black numbers,
  • Red backed miniature Scottie dogs for the first two engines,
  • White data panels and Eastfield depot panels where carried.

The Ethel Decals Scanned.

The "ETHEL 1" engine was originally numbered "ADB97250", later the"ADB" was removed - in decal form you can either cut or scratch off the "ADB" from the clear carrier if not required. See the More Details link from the top of the home page in The Products section. In particular, the tips on how to work with decals and model painting.

Bachmann released a model of "Ethel 3" in the Inter-city livery at the 2008 Toy Fair as an exclusive for attending dealers - it is expected surplus models will be released through the Colector's club magazine. They already command an inflated price on eBay.
