D62-*     ARRIVA TRAINS WALES COACH LOGOS £14.99/£9.99/£5.99/£4.99

Arriva Trains Wales have refurbished several coaches for their flagship North to South Wales services, running between Cardiff and Holyhead since the end of December 2008. Sponsored by the Welsh Assembly Government, the train was created to provide First Class restaurant dining as well as standard accomodation. Originally a pair of 57/3 engines were used to power the train - top and tail to one Mk3 First Class buffet with two or three Mk2 coaches including a Brake. Class 67 engines took over in April 2012, and in October, a new rake of three Mk3 coaches was introduced in a revised livery with a DVT at one end. There are currently three Class 67 engines and three Mk3 DVTs - the engines in a plain blue with no brandings.

The livery details of the train have always been somewhat of a "work in progress". When the coaches first appeared they were painted all over dark blue, some without logos or lining patterns. By mid January 2009, Arriva turquoise was added in four lines along the coach bodies, fading out at the right hand ends, with a gap on the left end for company logos - smaller versions of those applied to the 57/3 engines. The Mk3 restaurant carried a unique "First" across the windows. Entry doors were painted in Arriva turquoise at each end of the coaches - leaving the brake end nearest the engine in dark blue. During 2010 the lining was changed for six stripes in the same pattern, and that ran until October 2012. Then with an alteration to routing and timetable, a new rake was introduced - paler blue passenger doors, larger Arriva logos moved to the left end, new Welsh Assembly dragon logos in the centre, and the six-stripe lines moved around those. The new logos are also now being added to DMU Class 158 units.

When we first saw the train at Chester station (departing 16/01/09 @19:10) it was made up of four coaches between a pair of 57/3 engines:
  • 10249 First Class Mk3 Restaurant First Modular,
  • 5965 Mk2 Standard Open,
  • 5976 Mk2 Standard Open and
  • 9521 Mk2 Brake.
The current train formation we witnessed in the revised livery (departing @21:03 12/10/12) hauled by 67003:
  • 10249 First Class Mk3 Restaurant First Modular,
  • 12178 Mk3 Standard,
  • 12177 Mk3 Standard,
  • 82603 Mk3 DVT.
For both 4mm OO and 2mm N-gauge, here we have modelled the white logos and bi-lingual lettering on a clear carrier waterslide media, together with the white Mk2 & Mk3 coach numbers noted above. All packs include numbers for the Class 67 engines used. Te original livery packs also have numbers for extra coach 6183.

The current livery packs include the DVT numbers and additional rake sets of further coach numbers. Suitable coaches are available from Hornby and Graham Farish. The same revised livery has been applied to some class 158 units, and those decals are suitable for those models too - Jon Harding has made a model of a 158 shown on the left here.

4mm Model Finished By Geoff Dickens.

Geoff Dickens completed the model shown above. Note the white brandings produced here for
the Mk2 & Mk3 coaches are not necessarily the same as those applied to modern DMU vehicles.
Several turquoise painted Class 175 units carry a similar design, with a larger swirl and wider
spacing. With the fine lettering placed underneath the company name, brandings have been
applied to former First Group Class 175 units still carrying original "Barbie" whoose livery.
A black version of the logo, without any fine lettering, was applied to some plain silver
painted 158 units - see our D58-* packs. A small white version to a number of turquiose
painted Class 153 units - see pack D59-X. In the full turquiose livery, Class 158 units
have been produced by Bachmann, with a Pacer from Hornby. The current logos are being
applied with the stripe lining to some Class 158 units. We have prepared the art work
for Class 175 decals types ready for any special requests - to enquire further please
