D65-*     DB SCHENKER 59s & 66s £19.99-£0.99

The new big name in modern freight haulage for the UK is German company DB Schenker. They took over from English Welsh & Scottish Railways (EWS) in 2007. The third engine to receive a special naming ceremonies at the National Railway Museum was 59206 "John F. Yeoman Rail Pioneer". Painted in bright red with a small grey stripe along the bottom, this was unveiled on 24th January 2009. That became the new standard DBS livery and logo to replace the EWS maroon and "beasties". On January 31st 2009, the initially un-named 66152 appeared painted in the new scheme - it was named "Derek Holmes Railway Operator" during March 2010. 66097 and 66101 followed in 2011, 59204 and 59205 (not named) in 2012, 66118 in 2013, 59201 (not named) and 59202 in 2017. 66001, 66114 and 66185 were painted in 2014, 66185 initially un-named, was named "DP WORLD London Gateway" during October.

In 2017 several engines were given two revised styles of branding with much bigger "DB"-only logos. 60055 "Alain Thauvette" and 66066 "Geoff Spencer" have a type with white DB letters. The other style has a white box with red DB letters in the middle of the logos, and is now carried by 66001, 66009, 66019, 66020, 66041, 66082, 66085, 66128, 66149, 66150, 66192, 66206 and 66136 which also has lots of other branding stickers on in tribute to the new China-England through container trains - initially not on the nose ends, we include the current nose logos.

Here we present all the details that you will need to recreate any of the red livery Class 59 or Class 66 engines. All traced from real photos of each engine, ensuring that the precise shapes and thicknesses are reproduced, we print sets of three of everything enough to make one engine with spare decals:
  • Mirror chrome silver nameplates as filmless no carrier decals 66152/185,
  • Mirror chrome silver label names for 66055 or 66066 over the ribbed sides,
  • The various white lettering, different types of logos and engine numbers,
  • Nose end numbers in black, with various red and white logos,
  • Also data panels, yellow or white lifting and No 1 Wheel markings,
  • Metallic silver fuel point sign & air con grills.
For easy to fit wing mirrors in 4mm OO-scale, O-gauge or G-scale 1:29th, plus
combo knuckle-hook couplings, something that all DBS Class 66 engines carry,
see the Marketplace section of our site.

George Dent's Finished Models of 66055 & 66136.

George Dent finished models of 66055 and 66136 as it was initially for Model Rail Magazine, using the D65-I, D65-Y and D65-Z decal packs, as well as our 3D printed parts K7-C and K11-I from the Marketplace section of our site.

For best results with Class 66 models, the steps to follow in applying the decals are:
  • Take a painted donor model with printed numbers removed,
  • Gloss with Johnson's Klear floor polish to ensure a good base for the decals,
  • Apply more Johnson's Klear or use Microscale MicroSet to act as wet glue,
  • Roughly cut out the decals, soak and slide into place, press down with a sponge,
  • Apply Microscale MicroSol decal softening solution to help bed down in the ridges,
  • When dry, coat with Johnson's Klear or Microscale MicroSet to seal the decals,
  • Finish with satin varnish - built up in fine mist layers to avoid shrinkage.
The first engine to receive the new company logo was 60074, a blue livery dedicated to the Teenage Cancer Trust, named "Teenage Spirit" - for decals see out D15-* packs. The second named engine, another Class 60, is the subject of our D64-* decals: 60040 "The Territorial Army Centenary". Our D74-* packs have the different decals for Class 37 engines, one named "St Blazey T&RS Depot". Fifth in traffic, 67018 "Keith Heller" appears in our D76-* packs.

For O-gauge 7mm PRMRP make a kit for the Class 66,
while Aristocraft made an excellent G-scale model.
CJM Models have made a ready to run Class 59 in N-gauge form.
Hornby announced a 4mm scale model of 59206 for release in 2010.
Models of 66152 have now been issued by Bachmann and Graham Farish in OO and N gauge.
