D78-*     DBS RED 60 DECALS £24.99/£17.99/£12.99/£9.99/£7.99

DBS are the UK's largest modern freight haulage operation, they took over from English Welsh & Scottish Railways (EWS) in 2007. On January 11th 2011, engine 60011 became the fourth Class 60 to receive DB Schenker branding, this time on plain red livery. Then on September 7th, also in red but with large "switch on to safety" logos, 60007 was named "The Spirit of Tom Kendell", in rememberance of a DBS employee who died in a road accident - for a time before the naming ceremony, the engine was seen running with a smaller version of the safety logos and the nameplates bagged over. For October 2011, 60054 appeared in the plain red, much like 60011 but with a white-edged "DB" nose-end badge like that on 60007 and smaller side logos like those used on Classes 59 and 60. 60091 apeared in November 2011, 60079 in February 2012, and 60063 in March 2012, all with the white edged nose logos as per 60054, and the larger side logos as on 60011. For April 2012 60059 appeared with its former nameplates "Swinden Dalesman". For May 2012 it was 60015 in the plain red livery. Then 60040, which had been carrying an Army advertising panel on an EWS maroon body, was repainted in DBS red for June 2012 - keeping its nameplates. 60019 was the July 2012 engine - swapping its elaborate "Pathfinder Tours" plates for 60097's "Port of Grimsby & Immingham". 60010 joined the red party in October 2012. 60001, 60017, 60020, 60024, 60039, 60044, 60062, 60092 and 60100 are the latest. 60017, 60019, 60063, 60079 and 60091 carry a special Margam Sheep sticker on the nose. 60024 has been named "Clitheroe Castle", 60062 "Stainless Pioneer" and 60091 "Barry Needham". We understand that further Class 60 engines are to be returned to traffic after being repainted from EWS maroon to DBS bright red.

The first UK engine to receive the DB Schenker logo was 60074, a blue livery dedicated to the Teenage Cancer Trust, named "Teenage Spirit" - for decals see our D15-* packs. The second engine branded was 60040, named "The Territorial Army Centenary" in EWS maroon, the subject is covered by our D64-* packs. Our D91-* packs feature the third Class 60 to be DBS branded, 60099 in silver also carries TATA Steel branding.

Here we present all the special details that you will need to recreate the named 60007, the plain 60011, or another plain red livery numbered engine, in OO-scale 4mm, 2mm N-gauge or 7mm O-gauge forms. Each pack contains a spare of everything:
  • The DBS white side and red on white nose logos,
  • White side and black nose end numbers,
  • Data panels and solebar signage markings also in white,
  • Air conditioning grills for each cab side,
  • Nameplates for 60019 or 60059 matte silver decals,
  • The nameplates for 60007 as filmless miror chrome decals,
  • Both versions of the large safety logos in white for 60007.
Don't forget we also make separate overhead warning flash decal options: see D3-*.

As usual we have traced our decals from real photographs, and as has been the case with every other DB Schenker logo appearance, the logos have another set of unique sizes and thicknesses. As only so far on one other DBS Class 67 engine, 67018, the style of the engine numbers here hark back to BR green diesel D-number fonts, but in a different size. So much for standard graphic design then, which one might have thought the German owners would have been more particular about!

First to model 60007, in the as now running form, was Jon Gavin. A section of the decals are shown below the ordering table - they have both pre-naming and the final form of the hat logos.
