L28B      PRINCE'S DUCHESS HEADBOARD    £2.00 / £3.00

First seen on the preserved Duchess of Sutherland in 2004, this intricate headboard was created for Royal Train duties undertaken by Prince Charles, Prince of Wales. The headboard has been seen on the Duchess several times since, at gala outings like the Crewe Gathering in September 2005.

Hornby have modelled Duchess of Sutherland three times now:
  • Originally in the late seventies they depicted the LMS days with their tender-drive loco,
  • In 2004 they modelled the 2002 Royal Train with maroon lamps & Mk3 coaches (see our L28 pack for the headboard used then, which dated from 1953),
  • Finally for winter 2005 the Northern Belle set contains another super-detailed just pre-2002 form.
So far the crowns, which were added to the nameplates in 2002, have not been modelled by Hornby - but we have in our L28F pack (see the L*F/L*G entry for metallic foil labels under the "Various" regions section). The photo on the right shows the new Royal headboard and the crowned nameplates.

Our headboards are printed in O-gauge 7mm and 2mm N-gauge, as well as 4mm OO scale - two of each size in a pack.
