Just as for OO, here we offer 2mm scale N-gauge Class 52 "Western" name and number plates. With these options it is quite simple to rename or enhance a model. In real life the plate castings were 0.5 inch thick, our metallic foil labels are a much better match for modelling that, versus overly thick and more expensive etched plates. We offer various sizes of name labels, allowing you to find a match that allows you to cover up factory printed names without recourse to repainting. Just cut the details out and stick them on.
As a guide to accurate renaming, please note the following actual livery combinations:
- Desert Sand
- D1000
- Golden Ochre
- D1015
- Maroon & yellow buffer beam
- D1001/5/6/7/8/9/39/40/41/42
- Maroon & half yellow panel
- All except D1004/36/37
- Maroon & full yellow end
- D1001/2/7/8/12/16/25/31/32,
D1039/41/44/45/46/54/56/61/67/68

The actual class was made up of 74 engines. At one time or other all carried black backed plates, with only 8 using red backed plates in the particular liveries noted above. In the case of D1029 "Western Legionnaire", the name was spelled incorrectly with a single “n” between 1964 and 1967, giving another variation of nameplate. We produced any of the plates, covering all the possible real life combinations.
In addition to those actual engines produced, a list of names and numbers was drawn up for planned further production which never took place. The planned Western theme was reported by John Mayo in response to a letter to Railway Modeller in 2003. For those who might want to model any of the planned names, we also offer those name options in both black and red backed forms with for numbers D1074 to D1099.
