R1      BLACK LATEX TARPAULIN £2.95

This is neither a label nor a decal - it's a plain black latex rubber sheet.

Measuring 25cm by 15cm, the sheet can be used to make a number of realistic tarpaulins in various scales from O-gauge 7mm down to 2mm N-gauge. Thinner than most paper, it is none the less very strong and flexible. It will stretch without deforming to as much as twice its size. The finish is silky matte, somewhat waxy looking - weather proof just like real tarpaulin.

In the days of steam engines, a tarpaulin covering was often used between the loco cab roof and the tender to protect the crew from the elements. During the war that covering was extended down to black-out the cabs completely for night time running. This has been next to impossible to reproduce on a working model because of the need to be flexible between the coupled parts. Now you can with this new material.

Simply cut to size and fasten inside the loco cab with double-sided sticking tape or glue. Use some more to attach it to the tender - leaving some slack. Or tie it up like a "bed roll" with some cotton thread. Hornby's new A3 and A4 models are not complete until they have the tarpaulins in place. The photo on the right shows the rear of a real Jubilee cab with the tarpaulin left to hang from the roof.

For wagons, this offers an alternative to our other D2-* printed tarpaulin products in the Stock section of our Precision Decals range - a thousand and one uses!

Do not put oil based products on this material.
