Skowhegan & Athens Stock Certificate Although this layout will only use rolling stock lettered with the Skowhegan & Athens name, rather than make any attempt to portray either of those towns, I have included this page to explain the historical significance.

The Skowhegan & Athens did at one time exist, although in name only. I have used a couple of historical 'what-ifs' to assume that the railroad was built

Facts:
The Skowhegan & Athens was planned to link the two towns in Maine. It was to have been a 2 foot gauge railroad.

The Wiscasset & Quebec was planned, also as a 2 foot gauge line, to link the harbour in Wiscasset, Maine, with the grain traffic from Canada.

The S&ARR never got further than the printing of stock certificates. No construction was ever started.

The W&Q was started from Wisscasset, however it never reached Canada. The aims of the line were changed to serve communities in Maine, and it was renamed as the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington.

My What-ifs:
I have assumed that the S&A was built as planned.

I have assumed the the W&Q was completed to Canada.

In addition I have assumed that the W&Q crossed the S&A, allowing interchange of rolling stock between the two lines. I can therefore operate rolling stock lettered for both S&A and W&Q.
