D34-*     WEST COAST RAILWAYS N 2MM DECALS £7.99/£14.99

West Coast Railways have been the largest operator of charter trains in the UK for several years now. From their base in Carnforth, they run a fleet of claret coloured diesel engines and ex-BR rolling stock of various kinds. With the kind co-operation of the WCR marketing team, we have developed the essential decals for modelling a fleet of your own. Our decals are being added to and updated as the precise livery details change and new engines are added. 37676 Loch Rannoch was added to the fleet in July 2008, at first without the Scottie Dog logos. Loch Laidon, the name first carried by 37214 with Scottie dogs on, was moved to 37516 without, at the end of 2013. By July 2009, two un-named Class 37 engines were back in traffic in WCR colours - 37516 & 37706.

While OO scale modellers have been treated to numerous releases, there have been no models to date for N-gauge 2mm scale of the West Coast Railways engines. However, there are plenty of suitable donor models to re-spray and painting a WCR engine could not be simpler.

The original main colour of 47854 was, and the still current colour of 57601 is, BR maroon, matching the heritage Mk1 coaching stock. In that colour, those engines were painted with gold-lined black arrow-headed side stripes - referred to as a "reverse Fragonset" livery.

Since 2005, various Class 33, 37, 47854 and other Class 47 engines, have been painted in a slightly darker shade of claret. Most of these claret coloured engines carrying the company logo on the sides, in a flat warm yellow colour known as "old gold". However, 57601 carries a smaller metallic gold version of the logos on the nose ends. Most engines use the "old gold" colour for the cab side numbers, although some are white - the colour and font used has also changed over time. The engine data panels have an unusual format, employing two text sizes within one outline frame, with the engine class in a larger than standard font and the numbers aligned differently compared with the usual modern panels.

We present decal packs for each of the named engines, which include sets of three each of:
  • West Coast Railways logos on clear film,
  • Filmless nameplates,
  • Cab side numbers, data panels and any 10A shed plates on clear carrier.
To model the original livery on 47854 and the current livery of 57601, our packs for those include the side stripes as filmless decals.

Building a OO 4mm scale model of Loch Arkaig, 37248, featured in the March 2008 issue of the Model Rail magazine. That article by George Dent, made use of some pre-production transfers in metallic gold. We have since perfected the required flat "old gold" colour. The Scottie Dog depot detail that the Loch Arkaig, Loch Laidon and Loch Rannoch engines now carry are also included in those packs. While the pack for Jim Martin 33207 includes the nose end blue stars applied to that engine. As yet we've not released decals to cover the latest un-named 37 engines, which we can do to special order - just Contact Us to ask.

Don't forget that elsewhere in our range we offer the most accurate modern engine door kicker plates - see L72C in the Various Regions section of the Precision Labels listings. Overhead warning flash stickers are also available here as Precision Decals - see D3-C in the Stock section. Other than that all you'll need is some paint!

Some of the coaches belonging to the company also carry the WCR logo on otherwise as preserved BR maroon livery Mk1s. The coach logos are slightly smaller than on the engines. Some coaches in the WCR fleet have also been named. In the Stock section of the site we present coach logo and name decals.
